Jour 18 – 15 juillet / Day 18 – July 15

Wendy

We woke up to a colder, grey day in  Salta. Not necessarily a bad thing as we had planned to take advantage of our hostel’s good internet connection to update the blog finally and get ourselves together for our long (12 hour to be specific) bus ride to Chile tomorrow at 7am.

The one thing we did do was to visit Salta’s Archeological museum which houses the mummified bodies of three Inca children sacrificed over 500 years ago and discovered at over 6,000 meters where they had been buried with other offerings. The bodies were unearthed in 1999 entirely intact including clothing, hair, teeth,… Fascinating and frankly quite moving.

As mentioned we leave Argentina tomorrow. Our time here has lived up to all of our expectations with incredible and varied landscapes, extremely friendly and helpful people (except for the crazy roadrage guy of course) and very good food–though somewhat repetitive, I mean there really only so many empanadas one can eat!

We do not know whether we will be able to connect from northern Chile and then during our crossing into Bolivia. You may not hear from us for a week now, but do keep tuned.
