One of the first activities we booked months and months ago for our South American trip, other than Machu Picchu, was the Andean Explorer. A luxury 1920s Pullman-style train that runs between Puno and Cuzco. A ten-hour excursion culminating at 4319 meters above sea level with exceptional landscapes, fine dining and an amazing observation car/caboose with large panoramic windows. 

The big day had come and Alexis and I were very excited, knowing the kids would love this experience. However, as we arrived on time at the station, Sam announced that he had forgotten his jacket at the hotel! Major panic. Sam would definitely need his jacket, especially for the Inca Trail. Alexis decided to jump in a taxi to retrieve it. Needless to say, the stress level among the staff at the station (no need to mention my state!) when he was not back at 7:54 (for the 8am departure), was extremely high. But good ole Alexis rushed in at 7:56, hopped into our dining car with us, the train sounded its whistle and we were off. 

Thank goodness we did not miss taking the Andean Explorer. As Sasha would say, it was the experience of a lifetime.

J’adore voyager en train en général; j’avais donc anticipé avec grande excitation cette journée à bord du Andean Explorer, vieux Pullman reliant Puno à Cuzco, avec dejeuner sur table napée, bar servant de délicieux pisco sours, et wagon d’observation à l’arrière, ouvert sur l’immensité andine.

Nous ne sommes pas déçu de la dépense (c’est évidemment plus cher que le bus donc pas un délire de backpackers), car voyager en train offre une perspective unique sur le pays traversé. Et en plus on a appris à faire des pisco sours.

Les 10h de voyage passent d’ailleurs incroyablement vite et nous voilà arrivés à Cuzco à 19h, presque dernière étape de notre voyage.

 Ce train était magnifique. Un vieux train des années 20. Avec des paysages juste incroyables. Quand on y pense 10h c’est beaucoup mais pas quand tu es sur le Andean Explorer. Des petits shows ce déroulent pendant nos heures sur ce train. En premier un concert, et puis quelques heures plus tard un cours pour apprendre à faire un pisco sour ( dont Sam s’est rappelé du nom de l’alcool donc il a eu la boisson gratuitement ). Et après ca un petit fashion show de vêtements fait en bébé alpaca. Il y a aussi un service génial, et un déjeuner très bon! Il y a même un bar dans ce train. À côté du bar il y a un wagon fait en verre et au bout c’est ouvert sur la voie. C’est génial parce que ça nous permet d’avoir une vue encore mieu et de pouvoir prendre un verre. C’était très classe ce train et j’ai vraiment adoré! Une de mes activités préférée pendant le voyage. En plus il y avait un super « tea time ».
