Jour 6 / Day 6

Sam

Today we went to the Iguazu falls. I can’t tell you how many adjectives come to mind: marvelous, incredible, spectacular, breathtaking, amazing and downright awesome!

We started out on a truck through the jungle where our guide talked about the history of the park, the ecosystem and the flora and fauna. We then went down to the boat where we motored up the river towards the waterfalls. Once there, we took some pictures and then went in towards the falls. We got drenched and it was an awesome experience. We got so close to the rocks it was scary!

After that we got off the boat and tried to dry off even though we were still soaking wet. We then saw the falls from above, which was amazing! The stairs and bridges were built to blend in well with the surroundings and provised an amazing view of the falls.

We then had lunch where we were literally attacked by bees and butterflies. A bird (picture below) swooped down a stole one of my mom’s empanadas.

During the day, we saw coatie (picture below) roaming around and scavenging. We even saw one jump onto someone’s backpack in an attempt to find food.

We left early for the Cataratas (waterfalls) because Alexis wanted to get back to the hotel in time to see the Euro quarter final match between France and Iceland. So glad we chose to go on the adventure tour because we got to see a bit of the jungle and then the speed boat up into the waterfalls was thrilling. We all got completely soaked and the kids loved it. The park is absolutely beautiful and very well thought out with many vantage points of the numerous waterfalls. There is even a little train to get to the top of the falls. I couldn’t help but think how much my nephew Ben would have loved it!

We made it back about half way through the match and after France’s crushing win, we had caipirinhas and virgin daiquiris by the pool. We decided to try something low key in town for supper (following yesterday evening’s overly sophisticated dinner at the hotel) and ended up at a pizza joint recommended by our driver « Tito ». So nice to eat outside and have a leisurely walk back.
